The Royal Society, London, SW1Y 5AG
The UK has been through two elections, and with the third we now know that some form of Brexit is more than likely to happen. The turmoil has split both the country and the government. The impact will be felt for many years to come, but will the unrest created ever be fully dissolved? As for UK energy policy, the long-awaited white paper has been again delayed. With the development of Hinkley C moving ahead, one wonders will more such developments take place and if so, who will manage and fund them?
Alongside Brexit, the country has seen much in the way of protest covering the Climate Change Emergency and the Government’s plans for zero emissions by 2050 appeasing protestors. Geopolitical issues dominate the Middle East and Asia, fuelled by contention and trade wars emanating from US policy, impacting on security around the world including disruption to global energy supplies.
Energy is at the heart of much of our lives and whereas there are many views on what should be done to save the planet, it would seem fossil fuels will still have a role for many years to come. At our conference, we intend to discuss important issues that will affect decision-making, primarily for energy consumers and businesses in the UK and outside. Come and join us.
