Important news regarding ESOS Phase 3

           News

Major changes to the UK Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) Phase 3 have been announced this week by the Environment Agency:

  • ESOS Phase 3 compliance deadline has moved from December 2023 to June 2024. The extension to the compliance deadline is intended to ensure there is reasonable time for participants to meet the new requirements and for assessors to carry out assessments.
  • Whilst the compliance date has been extended, the qualification thresholds and date remain unchanged. ESOS still applies to all organisations (and their corporate groups) that were classed as large undertakings on 31 December 2022.
  • The government said it still intends to make the changes to ESOS Phase 3 that came out of the last ESOS consultation, although these draft changes are still subject to legislative scrutiny.
  • Notifications cannot be submitted until the Phase 3 requirements have been finalised in legislation and the IT system, currently being developed and tested, is updated.
